Botox injections – that famous facial wrinkle treatment – has shown to be an effective solution for those suffering from chronic pain according to recent research presented at the just concluded American Society of Plastic Surgeons conference in Seattle.
Although not approved by the FDA for that purpose, Botox has shown to provide relief for chronic back pain and other common ailments. Logically, it makes sense since the drug’s main purpose prevents facial muscles from contracting, which is what causes facial wrinkles.
Ordinarily, people treat chronic pain with medication, heat therapy, exercise, chiropractic or massage. In the recent experiments, 8 patients received Botox injections each month for 9 months.
All 8 of them reported significant pain reduction lasting up to 17 months.
